I personally prefer walking this in reverse, with the ascent of Y Garn’s NE Ridge being a classic approach to this mountain. Y Garn from Ogwen cottage is a popular walk, and this route can be done in either direction.

Again take in Tryfan to the east or look south-west to Snowdon & her relatives.

The path down to it soon becomes more obvious and you’ll reach it in no time at all.Once at Llyn y Cwn, if you’re tired, you now have the option of hanging a left to follow the path to Devil’s Kitchen and then back home via Llyn Idwal. Now we must descend about 250m southwards to Llyn y Cwn before ascending the shaded scree slope to the summit of Glyder Fawr, the highest point on this walk. Keep to the right hand side of the lake, crossing the stream on your way. Take care with foot placement and don’t forget to lift your head up from time to time to enjoy the views around you. We hike regularly with our 7 year old son, this will be an awesome one to tackle with him when he is a bit older, for now we’ll stick to the more moderate hikes. Certainly got lucky with the weather!The scenery you travel through reminds me of my geography field trips from my A level days, my memory fails me but I’m sure that was in Wales.
