Letterboxd - danavi. Pretty thoroughly plagued by your standard art-house pretense (contrasting tragedy and comedy to an absurd extent, and experimental to a fault), but if you can get past that then there's some worthwhile stuff here to enjoy. The pedestrian staggers away after the accident, and the next morning, Bibiane remembers what happened and is frightened at the prospect that she may have killed someone. Letterboxd. 890 films watched.

But Bibiane has not been especially happy in her work lately, owing in part to an unexpected pregnancy that led her to have an abortion. Hahaha. The narrative framework of the story being told by a bloody fish about to be beheaded by an even bloodier butcher is a brilliant device that seems to fit into/around most of Villeneuve's work. I see a bit of what would, one day, be Incendies.I think this was Denis’s second feature? The pedestrian staggers away after the accident, and the next morning, Bibiane remembers what happened and is frightened at the prospect that she may have killed someone. It’s also got a lot of strange dark humor in it which I didn’t expect coming from him and I don’t know it didn’t really work that well I guess.. it’s definitely weird though and I kind of love some of the elements involved in here.. like the bloody butcher and his talking fish Maelström is quite a familiar story, on a couple of different levels as it turns out.

I think I might prefer it to Un 32 aout sur terre, but since this is the first time I say that out loud, I reserve the right to change my mind. The film meanders, but it does it so organically that you just go for the ride where ever it takes you, holding the In Villeneuve We Trust sign. Bibiane is the daughter of a well-known fashion designer who dabbles in modeling when she's not busy helping to run the family business with her brother. This is far better than any movie I’ve ever made (I’ve made 3 kinda. It concisely communicates both the film's tone (or one of them at least) as well as Villeneuve's central theme (the violence underlying supposedly peaceful society). Far from my favorite but it shows how much he’s improved because currently, he’s made three movies that I would call perfect so that’s great. Some that don't know how weird they are. But Bibiane has not been especially happy in her work lately, owing in part to an unexpected pregnancy that led her to have an abortion. Advertisement.

Unlike Enemy which retains a dreamy surrealism throughout, Maelstrom is a slightly odd little drama that for no apparent reason is being told by a mutant fish repeatedly being slaughtered. I have to admit I wasn’t sure about liking this at the beginning but it started pulling me in along the way as I picked up on the elements at play. Yet…Nothing beats early Villeneuve in my books. The movie succeeds in a good representation of grief, guilt and despair. Films with backdrops on Letterboxd. Me pareció media meh la historia, nose porque la gente se alucina de lo rara" que es cuando lo único extraño es el narrador que bien podría ser un pez o cualquier otra cosa. After this film, there remains only one film by Villeneuve which I haven't watched, namely Un 32 aout sur Terre. It offers just the kind of habit-forming, sometimes tiresome maelstrom of discourse that the internet does best.
It’s also artsy and philosophical in its use of Dadaist elements (the talking fish) and water.
