I can see some readers of the series might be disappointed to discover 'VV' appears only very briefly in this book but I was happy to spend time with Ewa Moreno and her complicated personal life. Van Veeteren is well and truly retired and out of the picture, and it is Ewa Moreno who is the lead detective.
