I’ve driven one one in the 1980s it was [I think] a CJ something. The dashes have rattles, the oil sending units love to go out, both have had radiators crack. Why am I telling you this?Because the two Jeeps I’ve ever owned are the only vehicles that have lasted over a year without exploding. Go for a 2014 or higher for the better interior and nav/radio. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2018 Toyota 4Runner both stand out as particularly off-road capable midsize SUVs.. Not just pure hatred or love to the extremes. Perhaps the biggest difference between these two SUVs is their platforms. That 2011 was plagued with problems. That's why I'll never buy brand new. Even the new 2018-2019 Wrangler JL has been recalled due to failing welds!Please keep in mind there has been 6 recalls that include this model! 30,000km, no issues so far.
Overall it's good, it's been reliable and a blast in the snow.
The ride was like driving on a cobblestone road. Even if someone can post a reassuring “I have XXXX miles with zero issues so far!” would help me make a decision! I’m currently driving a 2002 Grand Cherokee. I drove that two years. The base engine is a 3.5-liter Pentastar Clearly, the Grand Cherokee is more about on-road performance, and the 4Runner has more of an off-road focus. It took approximately two months to resolve the last issue (a dead battery). Although modern Jeeps have reports of horrible initial reliable, some owners report excellent reliability over long periods of time. What true 4 WD vehicle (not AWD) that isn’t either too small or a beast (Nissan Armada) with decent creature comforts do you like? Maybe you’ve never owned one and don’t know if a Jeep will be reliable enough for you? The next generation JL Wrangler is rumored to have the 9-speed ZF transmission that has been so problematic for so many owners.
